If you could take one thing with you to a desert island?
Have you ever had a dream where you realize you’re dreaming? That’s what happened today.
A completely white space with desks and chairs lined up, and all the members of our second-year class A are present, none missing.
There’s no floor, ceiling, windows, doors, or walls, but there is a blackboard.
That blackboard has the words from before written on it.
“What’s this?” “A classroom?” “It’s too white.” ”…Is this a dream?”
The classmates’ reactions vary, but they’re surprisingly realistic.
Every single one of them is a phrase or gesture that the person would say or do.
Even if acquaintances appear in a dream, it’s not uncommon for them to be completely different characters or have different relationships, but this dream seems to prioritize realism. “Sou-kun, what will you have?”
My childhood friend, Iizumi Chiyu, comes up to my seat and asks.
She has shoulder-length white hair and sapphire-blue eyes.
Though she’s a bit short, her chest is incredibly imposing.
Her expression doesn’t change much, but she’s surprisingly playful on the inside.
We’ve been friends since kindergarten, and we’re still close even now that we’re in high school. My name is Kouya Souzou.
That’s why they call me Sou-kun. ”…Even in my dreams, my boobs are huge.”
Since it’s a dream, I can say things I usually wouldn’t because of tact.
Then, just like her real self, a cold, expressionless gaze shot over to me. “Pervert.” “S-sorry.” I couldn’t help but apologize.
This dream is too real, and I don’t know how to react.
I should probably act like I usually do.
“Um, so, about the blackboard?” “Right. What should we bring?”
Well, it’s a common topic. At least, you’d encounter it a few times if you lived for a decade or more.
If it’s the same kind of thing, it would be like what you would do if you won the lottery,
or what you would become if you were reborn,
or who you would want to date if you were a celebrity, something like that.
I glance over at my classmates.
“Smartphones, right?” “I know~”
“Insect repellent?” “Oh, then I’ll bring sunscreen~” “Haha, you’ll need a swimsuit too, right?”
“A plane. I’ll ride it back to Japan.” “You can’t even fly it…!”
“Coke.” “Got it. I’ll bring potato chips, let’s share.”
“Fishing pole. Securing food is important.” “Then I’ll bring a spear. I want to say ‘I caught one!’”
Everyone is coming up with their own ideas.
Well, it’s just idle chatter, so I shouldn’t butt in, but is it really okay to choose just one thing when we have so many options?
Some of them are thinking carefully, though… like this one. “Lighter”
Starting a fire is harder than most people think, so having a lighter at the beginning of a survival situation is very useful. You could also learn how to make a fire before your lighter runs out.
Some suggested matches instead. “A gun”
It would be useful as a weapon if we have to fight other people.
There are also concerns about the user’s skill, the type of gun, the type and number of bullets, and so on.
For example, if it’s a revolver with only six shots and no reloading, it might not be worth choosing just one item.
It could be used as a deterrent, just by having it, but if you encounter a beast or something, you might use it up right away. Or would you use a different weapon then?
“Knife. It’s a universal item on a desert island.”
That’s the classic choice. Some people mention survival knives or hatchets, and they’re all very useful.
I’ve heard of making knives out of stones, but that’s not something an amateur can easily do.
“Pot,” “Utensils,” “Forks. Good for eating or stabbing!”
I get the sentiment, but I don’t prioritize it very highly. I’d rather focus on survival than on a civilized lifestyle.
After hearing various opinions, I finally answer my childhood friend’s question. “The thing I’m taking is” ”…Taking?” “――Crafting ability” ”…Is that even an option?”
My childhood friend gave me a sharp look.
