Multiple updates today.

This is Chapter 3.

We got our hands on some wild boar meat.

So we decided to have everyone eat it together.

“Say, how do you even eat wild boar?”

“Butternut hot pot?”

Chiyu tilted her head in confusion as she asked.

“Aah, I see,”

I replied, though I’d never had butternut hot pot myself either.

Should I just imagine a regular stew?

“Before we start, Sousuke, could you show us what food we have on hand?”

Shion asked with a serious expression.

She had used the hair tie she’d carried with her during the transfer to tie her hair up into a bun.

It was cute when her hair was down, but it looked equally chic tied up like this.

“G-got it.”

I summoned a large wooden table for cooking and placed the ingredients on top of it.

Shion then began inspecting them.

“Oh…! We have kelp! We can make dashi broth with this.”

Looking at what she was holding, I added a clarification.

“That’s the stuff Chiyu gathered from the sandy beach.”

While I was felling trees, Chiyu had been carrying a basket and picking up items across the wide sandy beach.

The massive stockpile of seashells we have now is also the result of her efforts.

“They washed ashore.”

“It’s marked as ‘Edible’ in our Inventory, so it should be safe.”

“Yeah. Plus, since you stored them using your ability, they’ve been purified, so we can use them with peace of mind.”

“I see. Still, dashi… If any fish appear, maybe we could make dried bonito flakes too.”

“That’s great! Sousuke’s abilities are truly versatile and amazing!”

Shion was getting excited.

It was clear she loved cooking.

“「You’re amazing, Sousuke-kun.」”

I accepted the praise from Chiyu, which had become a standard occurrence.

“As a Japanese person, I’d really want soy sauce and miso too…”

Even if I could make them, how long would it take to source the raw materials on this island?

We can get salt from the sea, so as long as we can obtain soybeans, a path will open up, right…?

The complex manufacturing processes are handled by the ‘Crafting’ ability anyway.

“Well, I think we’ll have a simple-flavored stew. We can put mushrooms in here too. For now, let’s go with this, but if we find some vegetables during future explorations, the presentation will look a bit better.”

“Whoa~”

I had only eaten a light breakfast, but listening to her made me hungry again.

“Just eating it as salt-grilled meat sounds good too.”

“Yakiniku!”

“Since we don’t have a net, should we just roast it on the stones?”

“Leave it to me. I’ll conjure up something nice.”

“Hehe, that would be great. If this is our early lunch, shall we make yakiniku for dinner?”

“That sounds good.”

“I have no objections.”

Chiyu slurped, her saliva glistening.

“Also, Sousuke-kun, could you make a stove?”

“Oh right, having one would certainly be more convenient.”

When Shion suggested it and I looked for a recipe, it seems we can indeed craft one.

I didn’t see one yesterday, so whether or not you realize you can make it is likely one of the conditions for unlocking the recipe.

Since some recipes get added to my list automatically without me even thinking about them, discovering the materials themselves is definitely an important factor.

With that in mind, I’ll make a stove.

Essentially, it’s just for concentrating the heat, so as long as it encloses the fire, it should work.

Of course, we also need a hole to put fuel in.

I still have plenty of “Stone Material” in my Inventory, so generating it was easy.

Man, rocks are handy… From now on, if I find any rocks or boulders, I’ll actively convert them into items.

Since generation is complete, I placed it down.

“Whoa, thank you!”

Just as a star twinkled, Shion’s face lit up with a smile.

“Me? I’m not the one who should be thanking anyone. I know little about cooking, so I’m glad for the help.”

I immediately tried lighting it.

To make bon-tan-nabe (a nabe dish with lotus root and fish), I also placed a clay pot and a barrel of water.

“Finally, it’s nice to feel like I can be a bit more useful.”

Shion murmured happily.

I wanted to tell her not to worry about it, but she might still be feeling out of place.

It’s true that while the other members have pretty obvious cheat-like abilities, Shion’s powers are rather modest.

If there were interactions with other factions, I’m sure she’d contribute a great deal, though.

“Sousuke-kun, I can cook a little bit too, you know.”

“Hahaha, I get it.”

She has cooked meals with my mother before and has even made me bento boxes a few times.

It’s just that cooking regular dishes is different from handling the ingredients available in this environment.

“Mm… if I had some eggs, I could make tamagoyaki for Sousuke-kun, who loves it so much…”

Without changing her expression, Chiyu clenched her fist in frustration.

“Eggs would be great too. You could dip the meat from the hot pot in them, kind of like sukiyaki.”

Shion seemed happy talking about ingredients.

“Wow, sounds delicious.”

“Would chickens also be treated as chicken ‘meat’ and placed on this island?”

At Chiyu’s remark, I groaned in frustration.

It’s a mystery whether domesticated animals would actually be spawned here.

Given that the power to suddenly spawn wild beasts on an island is bizarre in itself, I wouldn’t be surprised if livestock appeared in the great wilderness.

“If there were some around, I’d catch them and keep them as pets.”

“Agreed.”

“Ah…!”

While everyone was using stone knives to slice the wild boar meat into thin pieces, Shion suddenly cried out.

“W-What’s wrong?”

“Well, yesterday Shouko-chan summoned a sheep for us, right?”

“Right.”

Thanks to that, we managed to acquire a massive amount of wool, which allowed us to sleep warm and cozy.

“And the sheared wool didn’t disappear, did it? So then—what about the milk?”

“I see, so you’re saying we can get milk…”

I hadn’t realized because I had a fixed concept that “milk” only referred to cow’s milk.

“What does sheep’s milk taste like?”

“Well, I’ve drunk it once before… It’s rich? Creamy? I probably couldn’t drink much of it, but it seems nutritious too, so it’d be nice if we could get some.”

“I want it, but I’m skeptical. The meat from summoned creatures was ‘Not Transferable to Food Use,’ right? Whether the milk gets classified as a harvestable item like the wool is the real question.”

“Considering our past experiences, Shouko-chan’s perception is important, isn’t it?”

“It is. Once Shouko comes back, let’s ask her about it.”

“Yeah, let’s do that.”

And just as the timing was perfect, Shouko arrived.

“Heh~ Minori says she can handle the rest on her own. Sousuke, please store Minori’s clothes.”

Shouko placed a laundry basket near me.

“Oh, good work. By the way, Shouko,”

While storing them, I called out to her.

“What’s up?”

I asked her with an eager tone.

“Can we get milk?”

Shouko froze for a moment, then her face turned red.

“Haa!? What are you saying?! Sexual harassment!”

And she crossed her arms over her ample breasts as if to shield them.

“A-ahahaha, Sousuke-kun…”

“Words lacking in detail.”

Shion laughed awkwardly, and Chiyu pointed it out calmly.

“No! That’s not what I meant! Sorry! I was talking about whether we can get sheep’s milk right now!”

I was forced to hastily explain myself.

Fukaho was in the bathhouse, which saved me.

If she had been here, I would have surely been scolded for being ‘lewd!’
