I’ll omit the details regarding time spent in today’s bonus area.
As for the items I managed to carry back, here they are: two subjects’ worth of textbooks, potatoes, cabbage seeds, barley, a solar panel, a kotatsu, and three transceivers.
The textbooks are for study purposes. Including supplementary materials, there are over twenty volumes in total, so it seems like it will take quite a bit more time to collect them all.
I chose all the food ingredients specifically so they could be increased using Nagahata’s ability.
Since fruits were chosen over vegetables in a previous binary choice, the island currently doesn’t have much of the common varieties growing.
But with Nagahata around, and by utilizing this bonus area, it becomes possible to produce specific desired vegetables stably.
The solar panel was an addition for extra power, and since there are cold days, I decided to bring in a kotatsu.
The transceivers are simply for communication use.
Fukaho explained that high-power ones require a license, but given that this is an desert island in another world where no one is bothered, I’ll just ask them to turn a blind eye. Once we return to Earth, of course, we will follow the rules there.
By the way, if we were able to establish a cooperation system with Sumio and the others, I considered increasing party members to maximize the benefits of the bonus area, but it turned out that’s not possible.
According to the mysterious blackboard, you can only bring up to ten people into the bonus area.
If you add an eleventh or later party member, they get dropped from the list in order of when they joined.
Looking back on it now, it felt like they were playing us, but maybe this whole setup was part of the Blackboard’s scheme all along.
Only one-quarter of the people on the island can acquire Earth-origin items every day.
Something along the lines of wanting to see how the other students react when that special status is exposed…
Am I overthinking it?
Anyway, from now on, the limit for bringing items into the island remains fixed at ten points per day.
And once the selection was complete, I found myself back in the familiar white void.
There were a blackboard, a desk, and a chair, so I assumed it was still a classroom, of sorts.
“Announcement regarding Unique Monster Placement.”
The moment we arrived, those words scrawled across the blackboard.
“Unique Monsters?”
Shion tilted her head in confusion.
“In games and fantasy stories, that term usually refers to special monsters.”
Seeing that several others still hadn’t caught on, I made sure to explain it out loud just to be safe.
“Oh right, like a Goblin King or something?”
Nodding in agreement with Tsubako’s comment, I continued.
“That’s roughly the idea: just assume they possess special abilities, pure physical strength, or are otherwise significantly more troublesome than usual.”
The specifics will likely be explained in detail later, so this should suffice as a baseline understanding.
“One unique variant will spawn for each species of monster deployed on the island.
These unique variants are collectively referred to as Unique Monsters. A reward will be granted to participants who defeat them.
Please note that Unique Monsters possess stats far exceeding those of standard variants.”
“A reward… I see, so rewards can be earned outside of specific events too.”
Mifumi rested her chin on her hand, looking intrigued.
Still… the timing is suspicious.
This announcement came immediately after we discussed the proposal of having me and Sumi urge the other male students to return home.
By newly offering rewards for fighting on the island, it seems they are encouraging the students to actively engage in their life on this desert island…
It’s a point of concern, but now isn’t the time to consult with everyone about it, is it?
Let’s focus on the new information for now.
“The monsters currently deployed are Treants and Arvanks, right? So, does that mean there are two Unique Monsters?”
Shion’s assumption would be correct.
If any new monsters are added in the future, it means unique variants of them could spawn.
“Unique Monsters are not subject to respawn via passage of days.”
“So the rewards are first-come, first-served, then?”
Terina was right.
Depending on the reward, it would effectively be either us or Sehou’s group that ended up claiming it.
No, depending on the payout, winning the ‘Reincarnation Wheel’ for the ‘Teleportation Ability’ is a possibility too. If he could call his history teacher—whom he’s currently dating—to the desert island, he’d definitely act on it aggressively.
“The reward for defeating the Needle-Tree Treant is the ‘Right of Double Decision.’”
“By exercising this right, you may place on the island one item from a previous binary choice that you did not select.”
So what’s written on its head is something like an epithet or title befitting a unique monster.
And this ‘Right of Double Decision’… honestly, it’s incredibly useful!
“Oh? Is that supposed to be amazing?”
Umi tilted her head slightly to the side, looking as if she didn’t quite understand what was going on.
“When the teacher was placed on the island, wasn’t it a choice between ‘Class Teacher’ and ‘Assistant Teacher’? In other words, it should mean that summoning Mr. Yamada is also an option.”
Teacher Luminas spoke up, likely to offer an explanation while simultaneously seeking confirmation.
Their homeroom teacher, Mr. Yamada, was a middle-aged man with a harsh face and a protruding belly, known among the students as “Old Man Yamada.”
“It might be possible, but I’d advise against it. No matter what, he’s a mid-tier male teacher.
Deploying someone with supernatural abilities to an island full of students is just too risky,” Rola objected quietly.
Given the precedent set by Teacher Luminas, if a student knew exactly what items were available and could choose what they wanted, it wasn’t entirely impossible that something dangerous might slip through the cracks.
On Earth, he was a laid-back teacher who kept a healthy distance from his students, but on this desert island in another world, fueled by the mindset of “it’s probably just a dream,” what if his desires exploded?
It sounded like a cliché, but it wasn’t zero that someone might import a “Hypnosis Ability” to use on the female students…
“I see… I don’t mean to doubt the teacher, but I’m scared too.”
“If we didn’t have anyone reliable to fall back on, I guess so, but at least we have Soosuke-kun.”
Mentioning him in his absence, I silently offered a bit of sympathy in my heart to the teacher who had been refused teleportation.
Not that I personally disagreed with the decision, honestly.
“The reward for slaying the Crimson Black Arvank is the ‘Invincible Potion.’ Upon consumption, you become impervious to all damage for one hour.”
So it was a potion, huh.
“W-Whoa, this is like a game…”
“Does your body glow?”
“Considering the worst-case scenario, it could prove useful.”
Geanchō, Shōko, and Shinhō’s reactions continued in a chain.
I was thinking. No matter which reward I received, it would certainly be welcome.
“I’d like the Treant’s reward.”
“Hmm. So that Sōsuke’s crafting will progress even more than ever.” Seiyu responded to my mutterings. “Eh? What do you mean?”
“On the second day’s multiple-choice question, wasn’t there an option for ‘Water Source and Mine’? If you chose the mine as the Treant’s reward, wouldn’t Sōsuke think he’d get a lot of ore?”
Shōko tilted her head in confusion as Shi’on explained.
“Right, currently you’re doing your best with just stone and wood, but it’s true that adding ores would expand the scope of crafting beyond what it has been up to now. However, it will also increase Sōsuke’s burden.”
Shinhō nodded with a pensive expression. She was probably visualizing the various types of minerals and their uses in her head.
“I’ve said it many times, but I enjoy crafting itself, so it’s no problem. Besides, for everyone’s sake, it’s not a hardship.”
At my words, some laughed while others blushed.
It was a bit embarrassing to admit, but that was the truth.
“That is a magnificent perspective.”
“I agree with Sōsuke’s way of thinking, too.”
Roa and Serina seemed to be in agreement as well.
“I see, the mine, huh? Um, just please be careful during mining?”
Mr. Luminus spoke with a worried look on his face. He still seemed to have lingering concerns about the students engaging in such dangerous activities, but he appeared to be restraining himself from voicing his opposition.
“Do ores get used in cosmetics? That’s so awesome!?”
Unable to help myself, I let out a smile at Runa’s characteristically feminine remark.
Of course, we hadn’t forgotten about those sorts of applications either.
“So, um, everyone… shall we hunt the Treant down? What are we going to do about the Arvank…”
“With Senyuu on our side, we might just be able to leave that one to the Sehou party.”
Mugen reacted to Genpou’s comment, causing her face to turn bright red. She shrank back into herself, muttering, “Oh, r-right.”
She must have been remembering the mixed bathing incident. Caught off guard by her embarrassment, I felt a flush of my own rise to my cheeks. “Hmph. Besides that, the real problem is their strength.”
“True. It’s unlikely they’d be stronger than the Behemoths, at least.”
“And then there’s the issue of finding them. Even if Mashiro’s sense of smell can track down monsters, I wonder if she can actually distinguish specific special variants from the rest.”
“Mmm… I guess you won’t know until you try, but it feels kinda tricky.”
Mikomi was clearly trying to say “subtle” or “tricky,” rather than just “vague.” Seeing Fukaho tilt his head in confusion for a split second, I let out a small laugh.
“Since having an event like this overlap with a fight against a Unique Monster is the absolute worst-case scenario, I think it’s better to just deal with things early on and be done with it.”
“So you’re saying a Giant Elephant and some hyper-powerful monster show up at the same time?
That sounds like literally the worst possible scenario,” Runa groaned in response to Yurina’s hypothesis.
Indeed, overlapping a raid battle with a Unique Monster fight was something they wanted to avoid if possible.
Just to be safe, I queried the Mystery Blackboard for details on each Unique Monster, but the only answer received was “Unable to provide an answer.”
“Better hurry up as much as possible, then. Besides, we can always retreat after making contact if things get too rough.”
It wouldn’t hurt to visually assess the enemy’s abilities at first glance, withdraw temporarily, and then formulate a proper counter-strategy.
“Question: What is essential for your lifestyle going forward?”
“Answer: Slime / Kobold”
I was minding that sort of trivia when more monsters were added today.
“Huh? They’re increasing?!”
Shouko let out a startled voice.
Sure enough, this was a nasty timing.
Right at the moment we were supposed to split two Unique Monsters between the two factions, they tacked on a third one.
“About Kobolds.”
Bipedal monsters with wolf-like faces and fur, standing about the height of a human child.
They attack using clubs and claws.
They move in swarms, preying on humans as well as beasts.
Those who live in caves roam about, seeking out other caves after leaving the nest.
Notes/Disclaimer
Organisms killed by kobolds require twice the standard amount of time to be reconfigured.
If a transmigrator is killed by a kobold attack, the number of kobolds on the island increases by one hundred as a consequence.”]
“Monsters really are terrifying creatures, aren’t they…”
“They’re gross, but honestly, they don’t seem that different from goblins. I wish they’d go around fighting each other over cave territory.”
Professor Luminas turned pale as Serein spoke with a hint of boredom.
“On slimes.
Indeterminate viscous organisms.
They possess resistance to physical and water-based attacks, but are weak to fire.
They digest and absorb all matter; once they accumulate a certain amount of nutrients, they split to reproduce.
They do not discriminate in their choice of habitat, and may change color or characteristics depending on what they have absorbed]”
“Slimes…
I really love them too, since so many works feature them as allies—” Yuzi seemed crushed by the description.
“Perhaps, with Master Inuyame’s abilities, you could even command slimes?”
Roa offered, trying to soften the blow.
Certainly, if Inukai were here, he could handle it.
“They can pop up anywhere…
It’s a bit scary,” Genchu said, and I could understand her unease.
Still, the reward for defeating a unique individual was significant.
“Before we vote, I suppose we’d want to know about each of their special traits.”
In response to Shinhou’s question, text floated onto the blackboard.
“The reward for defeating the Split Kobold is a ‘Fruit of Physical Enhancement.’
Those who consume this will have their physical attributes raised by one tier. The effect is permanent.”
It was an item I’d seen in RPGs, one that offered small but permanent boosts to specific stats.
It reminded me of my experiences with past games, where I might boost a mage’s intelligence or enhance the attack power of physical characters. The idea that this could actually be applied to real humans was mind-bending.
“Hm, a standard item. If you make him eat enough of these, we can create our own Muki-Muki-sou-kun.” “Don’t build it! Don’t build it!”
I thought muscles were cool, but I had no particular longing for being jacked.
Through training involving a cycle of 『Strength Enhancement』 and healing magic, my body was already sufficiently honed; as things stood, there was no issue.
“But it’s an incredible item, isn’t it? Physical ability is largely a matter of innate talent, yet this supposedly enhances that very foundation?”
“That must be right. You could hone your strengths or fix your complexes—there are all sorts of ways to use it. I’d bet it yields results beyond just physical enhancement too…”
Just as Sona and Shiun were saying, it was a fact.
It wasn’t like building up stamina or muscle strength through exercise.
It was about raising the underlying performance of the body itself—in other words, increasing talent.
It could rightly be called an item of exceptional caliber.
“If it’s one level up, what specifically would happen?”
“I cannot answer that.”
So, did the extent of enhancement vary from person to person?
If they had specifics—like how much a fifty-meter dash time would shrink, or how much weight could be added to a liftable dumbbell—it would have been easier to imagine.
“The defeat reward for the Resonance Acid Slime is ‘Memory Inheritance.’ By using this, it becomes possible to retain activities on the main island upon return.”
A shockwave rippled through the pristine white classroom.
Naturally.
It was what they had been seeking all along.
“W-with that, we wouldn’t have to forget what happened on this island, right?”
Shiun’s voice was trembling.
She more than anyone wanted to take back the experiences of this island with her.
Looking at the emotions swirling in her mind just now, such a reaction isn’t out of the question.
But something had me on edge.
“Wait a second. Is this reward exclusive to Unique Monsters?”
If so, this was going to be a real hassle.
Even if every future Unique Monster drop was ‘Memory Inheritance,’ we alone needed ten of them.
We’d already confirmed that the unique variants of the Treant and Arvank had different rewards. So even with good luck, by the time we earned enough for the party members, twelve species of demons would be rampant across the island.
In reality, the rewards likely varied anyway, and they would need them for Seiou’s group as well.
If it was for every member of both Seiou’s party and ours, that meant twenty-five.
If Unique Monsters were the only source, things were going to get quite complicated.
Even with Sekina’s barrier in place, it would certainly feel cramped operating outside of it.
‘I cannot answer that.’
The riddle blackboard’s reply was predictable, but infuriating.
“Even so, we have no choice but to collect them.”
Chiyu’s words seeped into the white classroom.
Everyone chewed over the words, a silence of several seconds stretching out between them.
She was certainly right.
“Yeah, you’re right. We’ve finally figured out how to get one. I should be happy about it.”
When I deliberately forced a bright smile, the others returned it with faint grins of their own.
“Right then, let’s vote for the slime.”
With our ten votes added in, the tally for slimes tipped past the majority.
[Since a majority has been reached, voting is now closed]
“Slime monsters will be deployed into the environment starting from Day 13.
Please note that defeated monsters will respawn after ten days.”
“Beginning Day 13.”
And with this, a new species of monster, the Slime, was newly deployed on this desert island.
From now on, special individuals will begin to emerge one by one from among the monsters.
Our life on this desert island is going to go on for a while longer yet.
