Reset[★Notice] In the afterword,
there is a very important announcement written.
Please read to the very end if you could.
Nana and I are currently in Hokkaido.
It's because Nana has taken an interest in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Hokkaido University.
After meeting Dr. Tetsuro Iida, the "Super Doctor," Nana nearly lost all confidence in herself.
However, talking with me seems to have helped her regain her motivation.
After that, Nana and I participated in an open campus day.
After receiving a general overview in the auditorium, we toured around the campus.
Old but historic-looking school buildings. A vast campus.
Since they also raise large animals like cattle and horses on university grounds, the scope of practical training is broad.
Furthermore, the research labs cover a wide variety of fields, creating an environment where the school supports whatever the students want to pursue.
I thought it was a truly excellent place to study veterinary medicine.
What I learned from the open campus event was that there are actually quite a few private veterinary schools in the metropolitan areas.
But on account of their limited land, it seems they can’t conduct many types of practical training.
Apparently, some of them don’t even have adequate facilities.
By comparison, Hokkaido University has everything sufficiently provided for—people, equipment, and environment alike.
So I figured it was a viable option for me to come here. It all depends on Nanako from here on out… "That was really informative!"
As we walked back to the hotel after the open campus ended, Nanako said that with a smile. "I’m glad to hear that."
If there’s one concern, it’s the fact that this is Hokkaido.
If she applies to Hokkaido University and gets in, she’d have to leave Tokyo for an independent life on her own.
She would need to be away from us.
Especially the parting with her beloved younger sister… But.
"I’m going to take the entrance exams. I’ll live alone." …It was a surprise.
Nanako volunteering to make such a statement herself.
It was the first time I had seen this usually timid, indecisive girl assert herself so strongly, standing her ground with such conviction.
"I'm going to study here and become an excellent veterinarian. And I want to become someone just as respectable as you are, Sensei..." ...I'm not exactly a model of respectability. I swallowed those words that might have spoiled the moment.
After all, Nanako had finally decided to take charge of her life with determination and tackle things head-on. The last thing I wanted was to dampen her spirit by pouring cold water on it. "Is that so? Do your best." "Yes!" [★New work posted!]
My recent short story was well received, so I've started a serialized version!
